On October 7th, EDI Media Inc. hosted the first news conference of the 7th Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF) at the Pacific Asia Museum. The organizing committee members, Chinese government officials, representatives of participating film crews, and sponsors gave speeches at the conference, among which were President of EDI Media Inc. and Chairman of CAFF, Mr. James Su; Co-Chair of CAFF, Producer of Oscar winning films “The Godfather” and “Million Dollar Baby”, and President of Ruddy Morgan Organization, Mr. Andre Morgan; Co-chair of CAFF, Mrs. Christine Antonovich; the Head of Consul of Cultural Dept. of Consulate General of People's Republic of China Mr. Che Zhaohe; the Consul of Cultural Dept. of Consulate General of People's Republic of China Ms. Li Bing; Pacific Asia Museum Executive Director Charles Mason; Vice President of East West Bank, Ms. Emily Wang; Deputy General Manager of Air China Limited-Los Angeles Office, Mr. Yang Rui.

With the great support of Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Los Angeles, and Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF) has become a grand annual event of cultural exchange and communication between Chinese and American film industry.

Chairman of the CAFF, Mr. James Su said that it is a great honor to have the Chinese Film delegation, led by the director general of Film Bureau of SARFT Mr. Tong Gang, to come to the news conference. The 7th CAFF strikes new records in the number of participating screening films and Chinese film companies, i.e. China Film Co., China Film Co-production Co., Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Tianjin North Film Group, Zhujiang Film Group, China News and Film Group, Huayi Bros. Media Group, Poly Bona Film Group, Shanghai Animation Film Studio, Yunnan Film Group, North United Group of Film and Television, DMG Entertainment, Sun Media Group, IDG Group, and Chinese Film Association and Macau Film Association. Besides Chinese film companies, MPAA, major film companies from Hollywood such as Fox, Disney, Sony, Dreamworks, and many other independent film production companies also actively participate in the 7th CAFF. The Organizing Committee of the 7th CAFF includes chairman of the American Film Market, and producer of the Oscar winning film the English Patient, Mr. Michael Ryan; President of Phoenix Pictures Inc. and producer of Oscar winning film the Black Swan, Dances with the wolves, Rocky, Mr. Mike Medavoy; and other major influential people in Hollywood. Former president of Academy of Motion Picture arts and sciences, and former chairman of Universal Pictures Mr. Sid Ganis also joined in the committee this year.

During the news conference, the 7th CAFF Organizing Committee released the first batch of films. For many of them, it will be the first time ever to be screened in North America. The rest of them are artistically outstanding or audiences’ beloved films in Chinese and American film market for the past year, My Kingdom, 72 Heroes. The Sun, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, The Seal of Love, The Piano in A Factory, Love You You, My Sassy Girl 2, If You Are The One 2, A Simple Life, Color Me Love, Bodyguards and Assassins, Legend of A Rabbit, Diago, One Week, Wentian I WentianII, Eternal Moment, Detective D, Tracks Kong Lingxue, Close to Me, Once Upon A Time in Tibet, Deep in The Clouds, A Jewish Girl in Shanghai, Guo Mingyi, An Eternal Lamb, Always Be With You, My Girlhood, Thor, X-Man: First Class, Bridesmaids, Unstoppable; to name a few. A total of nearly 100 films are to be presented in front of the North American audience.

The attending members of the 7th CAFF Organizing Committee were the Oscar winner and the sound master for films Hurt Locker, Spider Man, and 2012, Mr. Paul Ottosson; President of Long Tale and Distributor for Superman Mr. Omar Kaczmarczyk; Chinese Er hu artist who played in film Kong Fu Panda and other various Hollywood hits, Ms. Karen Han; Emmy Award winner Dino Herrman; Hollywood Chinese American movie star Mr. George Chang; Director of American Fusion Mr. Franklin Lin; Chinese American Actress and producer Ms. Lianne Hu; President of DOT Media Mr. Mike Tze; Former president of Columbia College Hollywood Mr.Paul Lo; and Los Angeles City College Professor Of Foreign Languages and Humanities Mr. Richard Liao etc.

The 7th CAFF Organizing Committee released the first batch of films and schedules of major events at the news conference. There will be over 10 workshops and seminars along with over 200 officially selected films being screened in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and San Francisco between October 27th and November 30th. The 7th Chinese American Film Festival opening ceremony will be held on Oct 27th at Director Guild of American, CAFF Night on Oct 28th, CAFF fashion night on Oct 29th and San Francisco opening ceremony on Oct 30th.
